Chapter 38: Monster

Lin Qiye put down the letter in his hand, his expression somewhat peculiar.

He had originally thought this letter would contain the secrets of this asylum, or perhaps a message from some mysterious powerhouse, or even reveal the truth of this world…

But… what the hell is this damn sixth-grade elementary school essay vibe?!

Could it be that the previous director of this asylum was really a little girl?

That makes no sense!

What kind of little girl could outdo the Goddess of Night in creation?

From this baffling letter, Lin Qiye could glean little information. Before him, this asylum had been in the hands of another girl, and she had even taken some things from the patients.

At this thought, Lin Qiye’s brows furrowed again.

In the letter, she mentioned “a few patients.”

In other words, besides Nyx, she had also opened the doors of several other gods’ rooms and, in the same “contest” manner, won an item from each of them?

What kind of monster is this…

Still, she mentioned there was something beneath this office?

Lin Qiye crouched down and carefully probed beneath the floor with his mind. Just as he reached the twenty-meter boundary, he seemed to touch something unusual…

“There’s a mechanism in this room?” Lin Qiye raised his head and looked at the wall behind the office.

In his perception, behind this wall was a hidden passage, and the way to open it…

After sensing for a moment, Lin Qiye stood up, walked to the bookshelf in the corner, and pressed lightly on a hidden compartment.

Immediately, the wall behind the office slowly split open, revealing a pitch-black passage.

Without hesitation, Lin Qiye walked down the passage.

The passage was long and deep. Lin Qiye walked for a long time before reaching the end.

When he opened the door at the end, he froze in place.

Before him was a dim, damp corridor, and lining both sides were dark prison cells!

That’s right—prison cells.

Unlike the six patient rooms in the wards above, what lay before Lin Qiye were genuine prison cells, the kind only found in jails. The iron doors of the cells were also covered in dense, intricate patterns, though their purpose was unclear.

Lin Qiye moved forward cautiously, his mind on high alert.

Beneath this already-mysterious asylum of gods, there were two rows of eerie prison cells—clearly not a place of goodwill.

Strangely, the cells on both sides were completely empty.

“Could this just be an abandoned prison?” Lin Qiye muttered to himself as he continued forward.

Soon, he reached the end.

However, when his gaze fell on the first cell at the end, his pupils abruptly constricted!

In the corner of the cell crouched a burly figure. Hearing Lin Qiye’s footsteps, it stiffly turned its head…

Revealing a pale, grotesque ghostly face!

The Ghostface King!

Seeing this familiar figure, Lin Qiye’s eyes erupted with intense killing intent as he reflexively took half a step back.

The Ghostface King, like a wild beast, roared and lunged violently at Lin Qiye—only to be flung back by an invisible force the moment it touched the cell bars, slamming into the rear wall.

Lin Qiye’s frown deepened.

Hadn’t he already killed the Ghostface King? He’d chopped its face into eighteen pieces—there was no way it could have survived. Its corpse should have been taken away by the Night Watch… So why was it here?

Just as Lin Qiye was puzzling over this, the familiar panel reappeared before his eyes.

Sinner: Ghostface King.

Judgment: As a mythical creature slain by your own hand, you hold the right to decide the fate of its soul:

Option 1: Directly annihilate its soul, erasing it from existence.

Option 2: Raise its ‘Fear Value’ of you to 60, allowing it to be employed as an asylum orderly. While tending to patients, it can also provide you with a degree of protection.

Current Fear Value: 1.

After reading this, Lin Qiye finally understood what was going on.

So, in addition to the six mysterious patients held together, this asylum also had the ability to transform mythical creatures he personally killed into orderlies.

In other words, every time he killed a mythical creature in the future, he might have the chance to turn it into an orderly?

And these mythical creatures… did they include the ancient gods?

What if—just what if—he were to kill a true god in the future? Could he then make that god work for him?

At this thought, Lin Qiye’s heart began to race.

“Roar—!!”

The Ghostface King’s howls snapped Lin Qiye out of his reverie. He looked up at the monstrous creature in the cell, his gaze gradually turning cold.

“Ghostface King…” Lin Qiye spoke calmly. “You’re strong. If you were to become my orderly, you’d probably be an excellent choice…”

Hearing this, the Ghostface King slowly quieted down.

Lin Qiye reached out his hand as if to touch the Ghostface King’s ghastly visage.

A flash of killing intent flickered in the Ghostface King’s eyes, but its survival instincts suppressed it. Since appearing here, it had learned of the two fates awaiting it.

And it knew—its fate now lay in the hands of this insignificant human before it.

It didn’t want to be utterly erased from existence, so… it had no choice but to submit.

It lowered its head, docile as a dog.

Lin Qiye’s palm touched its ghostly face and began to gently stroke it.

“You’ve killed many people. That’s fine—I didn’t know them. It doesn’t affect my decision to hire you…” Lin Qiye’s eyes narrowed, a cold glint flashing within them.

“Unfortunately… you killed someone very important to me.”

Suddenly, Lin Qiye’s hand tightened!

“Screee—!!” The Ghostface King’s face twisted violently as a piercing shriek echoed through the cell.

It flailed desperately, trying to break free from Lin Qiye’s grip—but it couldn’t.

This was Lin Qiye’s asylum.

He was the director here.

If he wanted it dead,

it had no choice but to die!

A fierce light erupted in Lin Qiye’s eyes. Amid the Ghostface King’s wretched screams, its body swelled like a balloon—

Then exploded!

Blood and gore splattered across the cell, only to be swiftly absorbed by the walls and floor. In mere seconds, the ‘Chuan’-level mythical creature had vanished without a trace.

This prison cell was like a living, devouring beast!

Lin Qiye’s white coat was also stained with blood. He stared at the now-empty cell and spoke emotionlessly:

“You were strong, but unfortunately…

My asylum has no place for you.”

With that, he turned and walked away, hands tucked into the pockets of his white coat.

In the dim corridor, the blood staining the white coat rapidly seeped away and disappeared…

Like a monster that fed on flesh.
