Chapter 45: Infiltration
“Captain, Qiye is still only a temporary member. He shouldn’t participate in mysterious eradication operations before becoming a full member,” Wu Xiangnan frowned slightly.
Chen Muye shook his head. “Based on the available intelligence, this mythical creature excels at camouflage, infiltration, and infection, but its own power level isn’t high. Qiye has trained for over half a month and has grown significantly in strength. This is a great opportunity for him to gain experience.”
“Moreover, he was originally a student at No. 2 High and is most familiar with the school. He’s also a classmate of Liu Xiaoyan, so it would be most natural for him to approach her.”
At this, Chen Muye turned to Lin Qiye and continued, “Of course, you’re a temporary member, so I won’t force you. If you’re unwilling to go, you can stay here on standby.”
“I’ll go,” Lin Qiye replied without hesitation.
Chen Muye was right. After more than half a month of training, his combat ability had improved significantly. He urgently needed an opportunity to put what he had learned into practice.
Moreover, to survive in this dangerous era, one must become familiar with danger itself as soon as possible. Although Lin Qiye valued self-preservation, he wouldn’t pass up any chance to train himself.
“In that case, let’s begin the operation.” Chen Muye stood up, then turned to Li Yifei. “You’ll go with Qiye and the others.”
Li Yifei was taken aback. “Me? I’m just an ordinary person… What if…”
“They’ll protect you,” Chen Muye’s tone left no room for argument. “You’ve seen the mythical creature and know the most about it among us. You must go.”
Hearing Chen Muye’s almost commanding tone, Li Yifei nodded with a bitter expression.
“If this operation goes smoothly… I’ll give you a chance to join the Night Watchmen,” Chen Muye said slowly as he walked toward the door.
Li Yifei’s eyes instantly lit up!
As Lin Qiye was about to leave, Leng Xuan, who had been standing in the corner, suddenly called out to him.
“Lin Qiye.”
“Yeah?”
Leng Xuan walked up to him, pulled a black pistol from behind his waist, and handed it to Lin Qiye.
“This is…”
“Take it. The magazine is full,” Leng Xuan said calmly.
“But my shooting skills… What if I accidentally hurt someone?” Lin Qiye’s expression turned uneasy.
Leng Xuan gave him a meaningful look, then turned and left.
“The significance of a gun isn’t limited to killing.”
Lin Qiye stood still for a moment, then tucked the pistol into his pocket and walked toward the passageway.
……
Twenty minutes later.
Three figures stood in front of the gates of No. 2 High School, carrying different cases and looking worried.
“Qiye, why are your school uniforms so ugly?” Hong Ying glanced down at the red-and-white high school uniform with distaste.
“The girls’ uniforms are actually not bad,” Lin Qiye pointed to his own blue-and-white uniform. “The boys’ are the truly ugly ones. Besides, whether a uniform looks good or not depends on the person wearing it.”
“You look quite good already.”
Under the sunlight, Hong Ying wore a white short-sleeved shirt under her red-and-white uniform, the zipper open and swaying slightly in the wind. Her hair was tied into a high ponytail, and she carried a long black case on her back. She radiated youth and vigor.
Si Xiaonan, on the other hand, presented a different picture. She wore a cartoon long-sleeved shirt with her uniform wrapped around her waist like a skirt. Her dark hair was tied into two large buns, making her look like a shy, youthful girl.
Hong Ying grinned and winked at Lin Qiye. “Qiye, I didn’t know you were so smooth with words!”
Lin Qiye: “…”
“The problem now is that the first class has already been going on for half the morning. How do we sneak in?” Lin Qiye checked the time and glanced at the fierce-looking security guard at the gate.
“Plus, we’re carrying these things. We’ll definitely be stopped and questioned,” Si Xiaonan said softly, looking at the black case in her hand.
“Isn’t it simple?” Hong Ying smiled slightly, straightened up, and pointed to the nearby wall over two meters tall. “We’ll climb over the wall!”
Lin Qiye thought for a moment, then glanced at Si Xiaonan, who only came up to his shoulder and looked delicate. “I should be fine, but Xiaonan might have some trouble…”
Si Xiaonan: (-?_-?)
She silently rolled her eyes at Lin Qiye, then moved swiftly to the wall. With light taps of her toes against the wall, she floated up like a graceful butterfly!
Holding the black case in one hand, she spun halfway in the air and landed soundlessly on the other side of the wall.
Lin Qiye: “…”
Hong Ying covered her mouth and chuckled. “Qiye, Xiaonan might seem soft, but she’s been a Night Watchman for two years. Don’t underestimate her…”
With that, Hong Ying quickly dashed toward the wall. Like a startled swan, she took several steps along the wall and easily flipped over it, landing with ease and elegance.
Lin Qiye walked to the base of the wall, recalling the two’s dazzling performances, and twitched his mouth slightly.
This is a bit embarrassing…
He took a deep breath, tossed his black case over first, then leaped high, using his hands to push off the top of the wall and smoothly clearing it.
Although it looked decent enough, everything suffers in comparison. With Hong Ying and Si Xiaonan’s flawless performances earlier, Lin Qiye suddenly felt too ashamed to show his face.
“Not bad, pretty cool,” Hong Ying handed Lin Qiye’s black case back to him with an encouraging smile.
Lin Qiye shook his head, just wanting to end this topic as soon as possible. “Let’s stick to the plan. I’ll return to class to get close to Liu Xiaoyan. You two investigate the dean’s office in the administration building.”
“Alright. If anything happens, communicate through the earpiece,” Hong Ying pointed to the invisible earpiece in her ear, then turned and left with Si Xiaonan.
After two steps, she paused and turned back somewhat sheepishly.
“Um… where is the administration building? And where is the dean’s office?”
Lin Qiye helplessly pointed to a distant building. “Room 403.”
……
“…So, as we say, ‘Odd changes, even remains, check the quadrant for the sign.’ Everyone must remember this口诀 (mnemonic). Now let’s look at the next problem…”
On the podium, a middle-aged man with glasses held teaching materials and lectured with great enthusiasm.
Suddenly, a knocking sound came from the door.
Tap, tap, tap!
Everyone turned to look at the door, where Lin Qiye, whom they hadn’t seen for over ten days, stood quietly holding a black case. He bowed slightly.
“Reporting.”
“Lin Qiye?” The math teacher looked surprised. “Why are you so late? Where have you been these past few days?”
“My eyes had some problems again. I was hospitalized for two weeks.”
“I see… Come in and take a seat.”
The math teacher adjusted his glasses. For a special student like Lin Qiye, who had previously been disabled, they had considerable tolerance and wouldn’t give him too hard a time.
Under everyone’s astonished gazes, Lin Qiye calmly walked to his original seat and sat down.
His mental power swept over the surroundings, and he frowned slightly.
“Class, let’s continue the lesson…” The math teacher tapped the blackboard, drawing everyone’s attention back, and continued teaching.
Lin Qiye discreetly touched his earpiece, and Chen Muye’s voice came through.
“Lin Qiye, what’s the situation?”
“I’ve entered the classroom,” Lin Qiye whispered.
“Can your Forbidden Realm identify them?”
“Yes.”
“How many are there?”
Lin Qiye’s frown deepened, his voice growing grave.
“Not good…”
