Chapter 48: The Girls’ Dormitory

“You! Which class are you from?! Where’s the original flag bearer?!” The moment the flag-raising ceremony ended, the teacher in charge rushed up to Lin Qiye with a furious expression, demanding answers.

Lin Qiye had no time to deal with him right now. He simply sidestepped and walked away.

The teacher’s eyes widened. In all his years of teaching, he had never encountered such an outrageous student!!

“Stop right there! Is that any way to behave when a teacher is talking to you?! Do you believe I’ll drag you to the principal’s office right now and have you publicly disciplined?!”

He grabbed Lin Qiye’s shoulder and roared!

Ahead, Lin Qiye stopped,

slowly turned his head,

and in his eyes,

two golden flames ignited instantly!

In that moment, an unprecedented pressure descended upon the teacher’s heart!

Under the gaze of those eyes, he felt as if he were staring into the entire universe. In the vast, boundless darkness and unknown, he was as insignificant as a grain of sand.

Oppression!

This was oppression that transcended life itself!

In just an instant, the teacher’s back was drenched in cold sweat, and he felt on the verge of collapse.

The flames in Lin Qiye’s eyes vanished as quickly as they appeared, as if nothing had ever been there.

“What happened earlier was my fault. You can publicly criticize me to the whole school, even file a complaint at the agency,” Lin Qiye said calmly, looking at the heavily panting teacher.

“But you’ll have to wait until I finish my work.”

With that, Lin Qiye turned and sprinted away, leaving the teacher staring after him in terror.

“Captain.”

“Qiye, report your status.”

“I’ve checked all the teachers and students in the school… The situation is very bad. I think resolving this matter quietly will be extremely difficult.”

“Elaborate.”

“Among the three grades, the number of infected is relatively low in Grade 1 and Grade 3—only about ten combined. Grade 2 is the most severe, with thirty-six infected students. One class even has half its students infected!”

“And that’s just the students. Among the teachers and leadership, nearly twenty are infected!”

“So I can infer that at least sixty teachers and students in No. 2 High have been turned into monsters!”

Silence fell on the other end of the earpiece.

“Captain, over sixty infected! Even if each infected is only at the ‘Lamp’ level, that means there are over sixty ‘Lamp’-level monsters in this high school!”

“If we discover the true form of this mythical creature, these sixty-plus ‘Lamp’-level infected will inevitably enter a frenzied state and launch indiscriminate attacks on the surrounding teachers and students!”

“And their numbers are too high. If even one escapes the school, it could become a disaster affecting the entire Cangnan City!”

Lin Qiye calmly stated his deduction.

“Qiye, it’s not ‘if’ any escape the school…” Sounds of slashing came from the other end of the earpiece as Chen Muye spoke slowly. “They are already spreading outward.”

At that moment, in a rental house several kilometers away from No. 2 High:

Chen Muye stepped over scattered pieces of flesh and blood, a knife in his hand. Beside him stood Wu Xiangnan, his expression grave.

“We investigated the homes of Liu Xiaoyan, Han Ruoruo you mentioned, and the dean. We found their family members were also infected. We just finished eliminating them.”

“The situation is more severe than we imagined.”

“Then…”

“We need to visit the families of those infected one by one to cut off the spread as soon as possible. So we can’t support you for now. But such a troublesome mythical creature likely isn’t very powerful itself. I believe the three of you should be able to eliminate it.”

“But if we do that, the school will definitely be thrown into chaos. It might expose our existence and that of the mythical creatures.”

“Don’t worry about that. We have a forbidden artifact called [Dream Whisper] that can create dreams within a certain range and erase parts of people’s memories.”

“Also, I’ll have Leng Xuan temporarily act as the Watcher and deploy the [No-Cross Boundary] around No. 2 High. No one will be allowed in or out. From now on… No. 2 High will become an isolated island.”

Chen Muye walked to the window, his eyes gazing in the direction of Lin Qiye and the other two as he spoke calmly:

“Our enemy this time is troublesome. Don’t hold back, don’t hide. You must find its true form in the shortest time possible… and kill it! At the same time, protect the safety of the teachers and students. We can’t afford too many more casualties.”

“This time… you can go all out!”

On the other end of the earpiece, Lin Qiye was silent for a moment before nodding firmly.

“Understood.”

Lin Qiye cut the communication. Standing beside Chen Muye, Wu Xiangnan frowned slightly.

“Encountering such a major incident on his first mission… isn’t it too difficult for him?”

“Xiangnan, this child is different from you and me.” Chen Muye shook his head slightly. “He has potential, temperament, and resilience. What we need to do is give him a clear path and a broad stage.”

“He will soar into the skies on his own.”

……

No. 2 High, Girls’ Dormitory.

Hong Ying peeked furtively through the window, glanced inside, and waved to the person behind her.

“Quick, the dorm auntie isn’t here!”

Si Xiaonan rushed in from outside, lightly leaped over the access control gate, and hid behind the duty room.

Hong Ying did the same. After avoiding the duty room, they ran straight up the stairs, taking them three at a time, moving with incredible speed!

In moments, they reached the fifth floor.

The flag-raising ceremony had just ended, and the students had all returned to their classrooms to prepare for lessons. The dormitory building was empty and silent. The doors on both sides were all locked, creating a dim and narrow space. The only light came from a sliver of sunshine on the balcony at the far end of the hallway.

Hong Ying cautiously pressed against the wall, using the dim light to survey the floor.

“Which room did Lin Qiye say those girls’ dorm was again?” Hong Ying turned and whispered.

“Second from the end on the north side,” Si Xiaonan replied.

Hong Ying looked toward the north-side dormitory and quietly walked toward it. Si Xiaonan tightly gripped the hem of her clothes, a trace of fear in her eyes.

“Hong Ying姐, slow down a bit.”

“Okay, okay. You, girl, aren’t afraid at all when cutting down monsters, but you’re scared of the dark.” Hong Ying replied helplessly.

The two gradually approached the dormitory door. Hong Ying once again used a thin needle to pick the lock, and the door slowly opened…

As Hong Ying expected, there was no one inside.

The two entered the dormitory and quickly began searching.

“Tsk, the dorms at this school are pretty nice… The balcony is quite big.” Hong Ying opened the door and stepped onto the balcony, sighing with admiration.

Suddenly, she seemed to see something, and her pupils constricted sharply.

There, on the dormitory’s clothesline, hanging among a bunch of pink and tender clothes and underwear…

Were four thin pieces of human skin,

swaying in the wind.
