Chapter 20: I’m Healed

After giving Nyx her medicine, Lin Qiye withdrew from his consciousness and gradually drifted into sleep.

This time, he didn’t have that exhausting dream about knocking. Ever since the Gods’ Psychiatric Hospital merged with him, it seemed he had completely broken free from the shackles of that nightmare and could finally experience true sleep.

He had a good dream. He dreamed of getting into university, achieving success in his career, moving into a big house with his aunt and Yang Jin, and the three of them finally being able to travel together—to see the mountains and rivers they had only ever glimpsed on TV…

Due to his physical disability and the family’s tight finances, there had never been any extra money to spare. In these seventeen years, Lin Qiye had never even left Cangnan City, let alone gone on a trip.

Deep down, he yearned to see the world beyond.

When the alarm rang, Lin Qiye reluctantly got out of bed, changed his clothes, and prepared to head to school.

As soon as he opened the door, he saw his aunt hurriedly putting on her shoes to leave.

“Auntie, why are you going to work so early?”

“The factory just got a new batch of parts, and they need us to process them ASAP. I’m heading out now. You and your brother eat breakfast, and don’t be late for school!” his aunt rattled off.

“Okay.”

Just as she was about to close the door behind her, Lin Qiye spoke up again.

“Auntie.”

“What is it?”

She stopped and turned back, looking at him in confusion.

“It’s… nothing.” Lin Qiye hesitated for a moment but then shook his head, a smile forming on his lips. “When you get back, I’ll tell you some good news.”

His aunt gave him a puzzled look before chuckling. “You little rascal, keeping secrets from me now? Fine, I’m in a hurry, but you’d better tell me tonight!”

With that, she quickly closed the door and clattered down the stairs.

Lin Qiye stood silently by the door, head lowered, lost in thought…

Suddenly, he jerked his head up, as if he’d made a firm decision, and flung the door open, still in his slippers!

He stood at the stairwell and shouted downstairs at the top of his lungs:

“Auntie! I can see!!”

The next moment, the clattering footsteps below came to an abrupt halt. Then, his aunt’s trembling voice floated up from five floors down:

“W-what did you say?!”

“I can see! I’m healed! Auntie!”

After a brief pause, the sound of frantic footsteps climbing back up the stairs echoed from below. Soon, his aunt stood before him, panting heavily.

Her lips quivered slightly, but the corners of her mouth couldn’t stop curling upward…

“You… you can see? Really?”

“Really.”

“Is it blurry? Any double vision? Does it hurt? Does light still sting your eyes?”

“No, none of that, Auntie.” Lin Qiye smiled, reaching up to untie the black bandage covering his eyes. A pair of strikingly beautiful eyes slowly opened. “I’m really healed, Auntie.”

His aunt stared at those eyes, tears uncontrollably welling up and spilling over.

She laughed, the wrinkles on her face blooming like flowers. At over forty years old, she grinned like a child.

In ten years, Lin Qiye had never seen her smile like this.

His aunt pulled him into a tight hug, and he could feel her body trembling ever so slightly.

“Good… good… Our Xiao Qi has finally overcome this!” His aunt released him, wiping her tears as she beamed. “Xiao Qi, I have to go to work now, but when I come back tonight, I’ll buy extra groceries. We’re celebrating properly!”

“Thank you, Auntie.”

“Alright, I’m off. You behave at school, okay?”

“Mm.”

His aunt hurried down the stairs, tears still streaming down her face. She wiped them away, her steps lighter than they’d ever been.

Lin Qiye watched her leave, his own eyes red, before turning back into the house.

Truthfully, he had originally planned to wait until his aunt returned that evening to formally announce the news. But then he remembered how, in movies, people who set up such flags usually met terrible fates…

He didn’t want anything bad to happen to his aunt. Even if it was just some absurd superstition, he refused to take the risk.

So, he decisively uprooted that flag, tore it to shreds, and tossed it into the Pacific Ocean.

As soon as Lin Qiye turned around, he saw Yang Jin standing behind him, holding Xiao Hei, his eyes also red.

The two brothers stared at each other for two seconds before breaking into simultaneous smiles.

“Brother, congratulations.”

“Yeah. Now those sunglasses you gave me can finally be put to use.” Lin Qiye ruffled Yang Jin’s hair with a soft laugh.

“Let’s eat, Brother. When Auntie comes back tonight, we’ll have a feast.”

“Deal!”

Xiao Hei poked his head out from Yang Jin’s arms and licked Lin Qiye’s hand. “Woof—!”

No. 2 High School.

When Lin Qiye walked into the classroom, the entire class fell silent.

The students blinked in confusion for a moment before someone tentatively asked:

“Are you… Lin Qiye?”

Lin Qiye, now without the black bandage, raised an eyebrow and nodded slightly.

After a brief silence, the classroom erupted into noise again—this time even more animated than before!

“His eyes are healed?”

“They must be! He can see now!”

“His eyes are so pretty!”

“Yeah, seriously! How come we never noticed how handsome he was before…”

The girls’ gazes toward Lin Qiye had completely changed. They huddled together, whispering and occasionally stealing glances at him.

The boys sitting closer to him also crowded around, bombarding him with questions about his eyes. When they confirmed he had truly recovered, they were all stunned.

“I could always see, but my eyes couldn’t handle light. After going to the hospital yesterday, they got better,” Lin Qiye explained.

His classmates suddenly remembered he had been absent the day before and nodded in understanding.

Amid the noisy classroom, only two people stood out for their unusual behavior.

Liu Yuan sat in the corner, head lowered, sneaking awkward glances at Lin Qiye.

He vividly remembered how, in his panic to escape, he had shoved Lin Qiye hard. After making it out alive, he assumed a blind person like Lin Qiye wouldn’t have stood a chance against that monster. Though he felt a twinge of guilt, he hadn’t dwelled on it.

But to his shock, it was Jiang Qian who had died—while Lin Qiye, the one he’d least expected to survive, was not only alive… but his eyes were healed!

At that moment, Liu Yuan couldn’t even describe his own emotions. Embarrassment? Guilt? Frustration? Or… regret?

Though Lin Qiye had his back to Liu Yuan, his spiritual perception caught every subtle shift in the other boy’s expression. His eyes narrowed slightly.

Just then, another person approached him.

Li Yifei stood awkwardly by Lin Qiye’s desk, looking uncomfortable. After glancing around, he leaned in and whispered:

“Qiye… um… can you come outside with me for a second? There’s something I want to say.”

Lin Qiye hesitated only briefly before nodding.
